Introducing INSPIRE X: A new way to explore underwater noise
We’re excited to introduce INSPIRE X, the next evolution of our underwater noise modelling tool to add to our toolbox of acoustic modelling services.
After years of development, we’ve combined our latest INSPIRE 6 impact piling model with a completely new interface, built from the ground up, making modelling faster, more visual, and easier to explore.
But this is much more than a fresh new look.
INSPIRE X incorporates our latest measurement data, including XXL piles and deeper-water developments now emerging across the offshore wind industry. With worldwide bathymetry built in, project teams can explore locations and potential constraints right from the start.
From modelling results to real-time exploration
One of the biggest improvements with INSPIRE X is how quickly you can explore the result.
With INSPIRE-X, project teams can rapidly test and compare different impact piling and project scenarios, with near-instant graphical outputs that bring predicted ranges to life alongside numerical results.
This makes it easier to see how different decisions could influence underwater noise predictions and to explore the implications while there’s still time to make changes.
And that opens up some exciting possibilities for our INSPIRE Light workshops.
Bringing modelling into the design conversation
Traditionally, modelling can happen after some of the key project design decisions have already been made. But what if engineers, consenting specialists, ecologists and acousticians could explore the options together, much earlier in the process?
With INSPIRE X, they can.
During INSPIRE Light workshops, project teams can interactively explore different scenarios, including:
- Pile dimensions: How do different pile sizes affect predicted underwater noise?
- Hammer energies: What are the implications of different blow energies?
- Locations: How might changing the project layout influence potential impacts?
- Installation strategies: What happens when different installation approaches are considered?
- Mitigation options: How could mitigation measures influence predicted noise levels?
Rather than waiting for modelling results to shape decisions that have already been made, teams can explore the options together, compare outcomes and consider alternatives while the project is still flexible.

For us, this is where INSPIRE X really comes into its own.
It’s not simply about making modelling faster. It’s about making the results more accessible, encouraging collaboration, and help project teams understand potential underwater noise and consenting risks earlier in the design process.
