Recompression Chamber Noise
Noise measurements have been taken during live operation of a number of different types of helmet. A standardised exercise programme was devised and noise data acquired during a period of exercise. This standardisation process removes the variation in noise level that could be attributed to different operating conditions. Using experienced divers, a number of styles of helmet were then investigated and some general statements about noise levels, seen with different styles of helmet, could be drawn. For the standard diving system, peak noise levels of 116 to 119 dB(A) were measured during periods of exercise. Subacoustech have therefore developed a package that is able to measure and assess noise exposure in underwater environments to ensure the safety of professional divers.
