Subacoustech Environmental’s Tim Mason and Adam Collett have completed the first phase of a detailed study of offshore noise propagation from the installation of an offshore windfarm. Measurements were taken during foundation installation at the Block Island Wind Farm in Rhode Island, the first offshore wind farm in the USA. Noise and vibration over and under water and on the coast was sampled simultaneously during impact piling under different wind speeds, wind directions, blow energies, water depths, water conditions, sea states and distances from the piling.
All the significant results will be written up and submitted for publishing once an appropriate journal has been selected. The project was run by HDR Inc. and sponsored by BOEM.
